case study-Autism

This semester, i am given a lot of opportunities to conduct field work out of UCSI. Counseling Psych, Abnormal Psych, and Ethics... these three subjects are a must for field work. Troublesome? Definately. Experiential? *YES! thumb's up!*

Today was the 2nd session i had with the autistic children for my Abnormal Psychology case study at Hua Min Autism Centre, Subang Jaya. I went there since last week with HuiRu and Kwang for observation purpose and try to befriend with the children there. As for today, we had an interview session with the parents for further info.

Well, let's do a summary. Mother is the best in this world. We wouldn't know how much mothers had sarcrifised for us, what's more for those mothers with special kids? *sigh* They need to pay 3x to 5x effort compare to normal parents. They need to face the prejudgment of the surrounding. Sometimes, i wished god can be fairer. During the interview, i got to know a lot about these autistic children on their family history, medical background and personality. People, we are indeed relatively fortunate compare to them.

Autistic kids are really innocent and cute. They have different types of classes in the centre, ranging from music to colouring, or even mathematics and counting money. Today, they played musical ball with us. I had a great time with them despite of my low energy bar due to pilled assignment this week. It quite saddening to see the difficulties they face as a child. They can't form a proper sentence, they can't speak well, they enjoy being in their own world, most importantly, they are having attention deficit problems and i think they don't even know what's going on around them. Big sigh.

It's sad to know that society is looking down on these childen, even the teachers in the primary school itself, are discriminating the children and ask the parents to send them to somewhere else. Sigh. Where is love education? No more. Parents are their pure support.

We are glad to know that parents are aware of their children's condition. They are warm, strong and kind. However, there are some parents who do not face the reality and they just give up on the children. It's sad to know that the kids are being abandoned in the centre.

Every child born in this world, has his special call. I believe one day, they can be recovered. I am touched by every word and every move of theirs. I hope i can have more patience and love in them.

Let love reigns.

Thank you lecturers for giving us all these exposures and hands-on learning. =)

counseling sessions

Thanks to Counseling Psychology, i have the opportunity to have counseling sessions with a counselor lately. Well, today was my second session with the counselor. I had a great session today. She had widen my horizon of viewing myself and others. I know, at times, things are easier being said than done, thus, i will try to fulfill it by actions.

She said, it's time for me to reach out for others. I guess, she's right. I have not been very active in term of getting know and understanding people. People won't come to you if there's no trust. True. :) At times, i do hope to help the others, however, skills are lacking in me and I've been living in a positive environment whereby I can't really understand how they are feeling at that moment. At times, being empathetic is very laborios. It can be mentally, emotionally and physically exhausted. Nonetheless, it never shaded out the thought of helping others.

Yeaa...
I had drawing therapy session with her today. I was asked to draw a house, a tree and a person. I felt quite nervous at that time. It's new to me to draw these few objects (not in counseling). Haha! In the end, the interpretations of counselor gave me a new perception of myself which surprised me a little somehow. You see... it really depends on how open a client is towards counseling session.

Don't be afraid of being counseled. It helps in self improvement and development too. =) We should reach out for others in any ways we can.

Food for Thought

What's a true love?
Ms. V brought out a very sincere thought of hers today.
"A true love is not wanting the love from others
but it is giving love to others."

Interesting.
It struck my mind.

From her eyes, i could sense she has a deep thought on this. She mentioned, we are yet to defined "true love". Fair enough.

Wednesday

Hello friends. Sorry for the MIA for few days. Finally, i am back! ^^
Well, it's Wednesday today! :)

Today has been fun and eventful. Meeting in the morning with Psych Club for the upcoming Welcoming Party. Yes! When issit? It's this coming Saturday! People, join us in the fun for this weekend! :) We also conducted the trial for the games, finalizng everything and so forth. Yea. So, come! ^^

Then, in the afternoon, we had drama for Abnormal Psych. The day has finally arrived. All our effort, our sweat, our time, our scripts, props, and preparation. Half an hour drama for each group and i thought everyone presented really well. It was funy and we were able to bring out the disorders' symptoms and treatments. =) Good job. I wanna take this opportunity to thank my group members for the spontaneous acting skills today in the add-on and miss-out parts. =) You girls were great! ^^ It's better than rehearsal time. =) Finally, it's all over! Time for report and self evaluation. =D

Farewell and Birthday.

Last night was another worthy memorable day. Killing two birds with one stone. We had birthday celebration for Bernie, also, a farewell for Joshua, who's going to leave us for Australia. :( Glad that our friends could meet up together and celebrated this day together :)
Joshua and Bernie. =)
A group picture. ^^
the cake was blocked. -.-"
Bernie and I~We shared a gift for Joshua.
A set of scarf, gloves and hat.
Since he didn't want to sing for us,
then we might as well help him wear this and snap pics. Haha!
The whole scene took ages. The girls were busy playing while Joshua was complaining he's very hot. Haha!
Woonkiat and Joan helped out too. Haha!
The gloves couldn't fit in. -.-"
Alas, it was successful!
Bravo to the ushers. Haha! ;)
See? Haha! He's half way to Australia already. =)
A card with our messages.
Cute cute Bernie. =)
A squid card for Bernie. =) With our messages too. =)

May all of us happy always! :)

external attribute

When things happen, people blame on others.
Yes. It's indeed very normal act.
Especially when responsibilities come in.

Today, i went back to hometown.
There was a snatch thief right in front of my house.
*jaw opened*
Mum's friend was the victim.
She was so panic. So was my mother.
Gone was her new handphone and the house keys.

What surprised me was the auntie was sort of like blaming my mummy for not opening the gate for her. Wow. -.-" That incident happened within split second. I kept my mum for what she'd said. Incident happens, at times, it's just can't be control. Hmm. Mum tried ways to help her and asked her to make report. She even asked me to the police station with auntie. However, she said no need, later on, she went off.

If i were to be in my mum's shoes, she surely will feel very guilty because her friend said something like this. Nonetheless, my whole family knew that these words were not meant to be this way because she did not keep her head cool after the incident.

If i were to be in the auntie's shoes, i guess, she was too afraid and too angry because her new 1-day handphone costed her a bomb. Well. What can i say? I donno.

Words blurt out from our mouth, somehow, will leave a mark on a person's mind, needless to say for those you love. Sigh. Always keep our heads cool before saying something hurtful.
Now, i am worried about the safety of my parents.
*pray hard*

Malacca

Malacca has been my favourite place. Its' places, people and picturesque town make me pay numerous visits with family or friends every year. Most probably i enjoy the atmosphere there despite the heaty weather... also i lurve to take pictures. =) *revealed* This time round, I made my way to Malacca with Ray, Kwang, KerHuey and Joseph. In short, i enjoyed this trip a lot. Sumptuous food. Stupid pictures. Historical culture stories instilled and boosted our knowledge. =)
the arch of Jonker Street

One "stop" that i must introduce is "Cheng Ho Cultural Muzium" in Jonker Street. We stopped for a cup of tea and never realised it was connected to the muzium. This lady introduced many types of tea to us and taught us how to make a pot of tea. The procedures were so deligate until I was so focused on the teapot because of its' cost and size. Haha! The lady is from Batu Pahat, Johorian! Oh my. She's a Convent girl too! ^^" Yet so far, yet so near. xD
yea... we went into this tea house which led us to Cheng Ho Cultural Muzium
the lady with her teaching method. Hehe!
good angle of Joseph. Haha! like a model.
first try-out: me!
i was so afraid that i was going to break the hot pot of tea. -.-"
then, Kerhuey tried. =)
so was Ray~ :)
There was a wishing bell aka peaceful bell where everyone of us made wish and knocked the bell. A sound of "gooooong" was heard when we let go the heavy log. Peaceful. Breezing wind. Perfect weather for us to reflect ourself at that place when we closed our eyes. Many of us felt that as though the wish is going to come true. -.-" Self serving bias. Haha!
a short 7 mins puppet show. in English. -.-"
this is the big birthday card from China.
Later, the lady guided us to the Cheng Ho Cultural Muzium entrance which stretched eight shoplots altogether. We spent an hour there with merely rm5 ticket fare. The "tour guide" of muzium, an elderly woman, Mdm Yong, who was borned locally and been through a lot Malacca histories changes told us many stories about Cheng Ho, a famous figure who spent his life for China towards Malacca. Oh my. The video was so spectacular. Back in the olden days, the Chinese were wise and knowledgeable. ^^ Heritage possesions such as ceramics, tin ingots and coins, old well, machinery stuffs and art pieces were shown. Guess what, i think the whole muzium costs billions. *really* Sending back ONE ceramic plate costs rm 160k. Also, thanks to Mdm Yong, we were able to try the well's water and washed our faces and hands as a sign of luck and well wish.
the last one who washed the face with the water from the well.
hopefully there's no any unlucky thing for me. Haha! :)
some possessions.
the version of Kwang & Kerhuey, imitating Cheng Ho and the servant
it's now our turn. Haha!
the ships models from Cheng Ho's period. The whole model costed... a bomb.
Apart from muzium in Jonker Street, we also visited well known chinese temple青云亭which lasts over centuries during Cheng Ho period.
what's the reason behind their prayer? Haha!
this was one of the reasons.
guess what? in the end, 5 out of 6 numbers kena. Haha! still, no money. Haha!
How about food? Yes. It's unevitable for your calories to accelerate in Malacca. The renowned chicken rice ball, chendol, baba nyonya food and so on were gulped into our growling stomachs. Digestion went quite well as we walked for so many hours. @@"
first meal at the chicken rice ball restauarnt. -.-" long queue
no comment
Later in the evening, we walked around some famous tourism spots of Malacca. Then, we moved on to revolving observation tower. From there, we were able to view the whole Malacca. The horizon. The fine line between the sea and the sky. The colourful buildings. The traffics but not the human. haha! It was a whole new experience for me. =)
view from above.
a collage by me. =)
got down.
a newly built pseudo castle. Haha! ;)
the kincir air.
the windmill
Next, the lantern and light exhibition. =) It was small but it was well lit with many types of models such as animals, dragons, traditional houses and some famous attractions of Malaysia.
what to say? I am elephant-oriented. Haha!

Photos from the riverside were awesome too! ^^ My camera wasn't that bad afterall. =) In the midst of the walk, Kwang suggested us to JUMP. Swt. And so, we jumped despite of how people looked at us. Not that we are from Malacca right? Haha! SO FUNNY. The pictures were like... ghosts from heaven. Haha! It was memorable. =)
did u see what i see? Or u see an extra?
Haha! This was the first jumping photos.
they called it 福。禄。寿。
sweat.
ray was... drunk? Haha!
my favourite pic on night view. =)
i like the background more than me. =.="
eye on malaysia shifted home. haha!
Night walk at Jonker Street was normal to me. Cultural performances, food, songs, old folks, souvenirs occupied the whole long road. @_@" However, the night breeze was good. ^^" Not as terrible as the pasar malam of Connaught here. =D

Satay celup ended our night and we departed around 12am. @_@" Oh my. Everyone was almost half dead but gotta stay awake. And yes, i was down with fever and sorethroat due to weather and dehydration. Haha!

Thank you guys for this memorable one day trip to Malacca.

I really enjoyed myself with you guys.
