coaching

Being able to work in Student Development & Counselling Unit, i guess the greatest sense of fulfillment has gotta do with students. In every project that we initiate, with students around, it's always a golden opportunity to work with them and to provide guidance and to coach them at the same time. Don't misuse the status because at times, students just simply can come out with brilliant ideas, even much more better than a staff! =)
Coming to the end of semester, it's time to recharge and replan. Throughout the year of 2010, so many events were held. I would say I learned a lot as time goes by, in every project, with bunch and bunch of students. Not to forget the super supportive team we have in SDC, nothing can beat the teamwork and the trust i think :) At times, I would really think that they're indeed the angels that God sent. Sounds exaggerating but... it's 101% true.
Speaking of coaching, seriously, the most essential element would be the trust that you've given to the students that you're working with. If there's trust, everything would be possible. Sometimes, things don't just happen miraculously. Things happen for a reason. If you're given a bunch of slow and steady kids, you gotta work on their pace and get to know their working pattern. They might be slower but they still produce something for you. However, that doesn't mean you can leave them like that, maybe it's also good to motivate them to move slightly faster than normal. When people are brought out of the box, we will learn. Just like what Dr Biles said, "You train at their pace, not at your pace." :) Agree no more.
Tomorrow is 1 November. How time flies. I can't really imagine how i've gone thru almost a year just like tat. Well, at least I know what am i doing :) That's good enough for me. A lot of times, the meaning that derives from each action, makes a lot of difference in life. =) They just don't have to be perfect, but that tiny bit of imperfections, makes up a genuine life, because nothing is perfect in this world.

human vs human

BLOW!!!! I'm blowing away the 7cm thick of dust in my bloggy. *very thick* It's Sunday today! :) A day to rest and reenergize so that Monday will be a great day! *hypnotize myself a lil* :)

Got up slightly earlier than yesterday. Nothing special gonna happened in the weekend. Laze around the room is the best choice. The week was like riding a roller coaster. So much fun! As in... up and down, lots of happenings. All in all, i would say it's never easy to live without human. Folks, we have to treasure our lives and use it wisely. Remember, we're not alone in the world. There're friends and family around. Talk to them, don't choose other way round.

Apart from this, I attended the MBTI follow-up training session on Friday. Learned how each individual taking efforts to know a person in his or her life. The finest art that human possess, it's not about fashion, neither is how much $ you have, but the finest art to me is, communication. :) My sis said, the most powerful organ in the whole body is tongue! How true! :) We talk and communicate with people. During the training, we get to know how difficult it is to talk to a person from a different wavelength. At times, I choose not to talk at all to minimize the conflict. However, as I grow older, I realise communication is so much more useful and genuine. As in, we talk about it, rather that judging without understanding? Energy gonna be consumed but the end result gonna be beautiful. We've all tried I believe. I learned to talk and i am thankful for those who made me learned :)

It was a awakening week for me- to see how fragile a life can be, at the same time, to learn how to sustain a relationship with better communication. I love my job because i am happy when i am able to extend a helping hand =)

Our Date! =D

It was a long awaiting one. Finally everyone of us was off from unit programme. The hard core was over. Pheww. It's time to celebrate the two belated birthdays for both Amy and KerShin and the events successes. Hmm... i hope it's a success? Anyway, yea, it was way later than their actual big days. Wat to do? :)
Oh well, the dinner turned out pretty well. :) very relaxing and amusing with some healthy and dirty conversations. We had super long chat session after makan-makan. It's just not-us after work. Well, with the blur queen, lame queens and laughable queen, i guess it's always that enjoyable. How time flies, this was actually the 2nd time we celebrated the birthdays together. Time really know how to blink like our eyelids do. :)
Checked-in to Sushi Tei, ordered ala-carte and some side meals. Their names were too funny and it turned out to such a humuliation to amy. =X Hehe! But it's all for joking purpose, no hard feeling. May was too creative. O_O" Hmmm, i would love to go back there again for others. :)
the boat-like sushi name is Dai Dai Roll, sounds like Dai Dai Lok (big big lump-in cantonese), and the 3 at the bottom were Don. One is Ebi Yatsai Don, Chick Terriyaki Don, Ebi Tempura Don. May quoted Ebi Yatsai Don sounded like Amy Jiaksai (in hokkien). -_-" superbly funny, no kidding! =DDD
Unagi steamed egg ordered by KS.
After that, May suggested for a Green Apple Doughnut which was actually Big Apple Doughnut. She.is.just.too.blur. @_@"
and yea, so we got them these doughnuts as birthday "cake"! :)
kita bertiga.
the lovely sistas! :)

It's not just about the celebration but all of us had an affirmation session with the birthday ladies. And it ended with a prayer by May for both of them, hoping God will shower His blessings to them all. :)

I know it's kinda long... but... Happy Birthday to you both, ladies! :)

ruiXue's

It was last Saturday when everyone got back to hometown. :) We celebrated rX's birthday and met up with everybody. There were quite a number of us. It's been long since we last gathered and it's always good to get update from each other and just to chill-lax a while. It's always so refreshing and recharged to meet up with friends. Anyway, Happy Birthday, my friend! May you stay happy and may our friendships last all of us forever.
big girl already :)

nothing emo :)

Life is a journey. A lot of times, we ought to take this journey positively. The people we meet, the experience that we countered, the joy and sorrow, the memories, it's just ought to be the way it should be. We should live our life to the maximum, maximized it with great spirit and joy, then only we'll realise, the world is actually very wonderful to live with.

These few days, nothing special happened. Office is peaceful and calm. Well, i guess my life now is very much occupied by work. This period of time is just nice, for me to pause a lil, to look at those people around me. A game of badminton, a makan-makan session of lekor can actually be so simple yet so happy. Nothing to do with work, just eat and play for a while after work. Everyone gears down the pace and enjoys the presence of each other, isn't it just wonderful? :)

We wouldn't know how blessed we are, until we count all the blessings we receive each day. How about another way round, how would you be a blesing to people today? Let's start counting it, you'll be glad that things ain't that bad afterall :) Quoted from Eat Love Pray "We are not seeing things with eyes, but with our hearts."

It was a memorable one. It has been so long since sis and i are in KL. I guess I really miss all these outings. When can we be free for a trip? Just to spend time? :)

Porridge Sunday

There wasn't any special occasion but I guess it was a leisure Sunday breakfast with Steph. A very random decision after reading vkeong's blog. So, we decided to pay a visit to the fish porridge at Petaling Street. =) I love breakfast (but not the early waking-up feeling) with people.

Taddaaaa! generous portion of fishy!

it's my first time trying such a way to eat porridge.
dumped all the fish in, stir 'em all up!
At first we couldn't find the stall, it was quite hidden at a side. If it's not the blog, we wouldn't have known about it. :)
ooo.. and steph said this tongshui is very famous! :)
candid shot of us.
steph, it's been long to snap an abnormal face like this! ^^
then we jalan jalan at pasar seni.
my first time here, and she said i'm like a tourist. o_O
Various themes in Pasar Seni. I was amazed!
I love the trees! Bulat bulat! :)

3rd Annual Mental Health Week (Part 3: MINDA Big Walk 2010)

A walkathon to create the awareness of the mental ill. An initiation by Malaysian Mental Health Association and MINDA Malaysia. It's also an annual event organized by MMHA on this meaningful World Mental Health Day 10.10.10.
It was a good exercise for me, but waking up as early as 5.45am was not fun. @_@" Anyway! It was a 5km walk. It took about 1 hour if you're into walking and it took about 0.5 hours if you jogged. :) Oh well, i walked... alone. o_O I chose to spend that 1 hour with myself. How happy. Apart from walkathon, there were also groups of students walked with their banners, shouted the slogans and created awareness along the way. They were high-spirited! :)
7am- Aerobic warm up. It was indeed a warm up. o_O so warm after 1/2 hour.
Flag Off!
The slogan from Sunway UC
straight somemore...
further up... @_@"
It's good to see this :)
the weather was perfect! :)
All of us completed the walk.
We had goodie bag! =D

3rd Annual Mental Health Week (Part 2: Leading You to the Tunnel of Eustress Lifestyle)

Mental Health Week project, a project which is very close to my heart. It's been three years and I am still with this. From being the organizing committee as psychology student, leading students as intern, to guiding another batch of new kids as a full-timer. It's really something that drafts my 3 years of running this project. It's part and parcel of the growing process and self-development stages for me. And yes, i missed being with the team.
the preparation took the hell out of their energy. It was Saturday.
Monday night.
and they're still happily fixing the clothes. @_@"

sticking information on the outside of the cloth

I was very happy this year round to work with this bunch of kids (ok, maybe they're not kids). Their commitment and dedication are something that i'm very proud of with. I knew the response wasn't very very encouraging, but i know all of them had tried their very best. Their effort was seen and well acknowledged by me as the "so-called-advisor". I'm glad our programmes were slightly different from the past, it has elevated to another level, bringing students out for some community care projects- hospital visit and the charity walkathon.

This fluoroscent coloured stress ball, cute kan? :) Purchased by Pei Ling. It was actually served as the "flower" of the Opening Ceremony. Many many of them. Hehe! And YES, we gave a big red smiley stress ball to the Guest-of-Honour.

the coloured tunnel. Different stages for different colour.

So apart from campaign, what else did we have? :) We had series of workshops- Stress Management Workshop and DISC Profile and Stress Management Workshop. :) Focusing on eustress lifestyle this year round, we hope to bring awareness to the uni community, to handle stress in an appropriate gesture.

5 mins of relaxation method- practical application

DISC Profile and Stress Management Workshop at North Wing by Amy, our counsellor :) Find out your own personality and how to deal with stressors in life.

Bored with workshops? Fret not. We have other activities. Tunnel of the Eustress Lifestyle was filled with activities and exhibition on the information about eustress. We also had a drawing section, for anybody to express their thoughts/ stressors onto drawing to create the Art of Eustress. :)) Apart from this, we had stress survey too. Gonna have a lot of aftermath after this project. :)

Drawing is a form of expressive therapy

no kidding, this was funny o_O

the 20 questions on stress survey, thanks Amy for making this.

our regular customer, Mr. Sylvester.

Seriously, I really love to work with these bunch of committee this time round. They're simply helpful, independent and respectful. Way to go peeps! :) Let's move on and learn more. We're ought to change the world, at least, the University to the next level :)
