3rd Annual Mental Health Week (Part 1: Hospital Site Visit)

In conjunction with World Mental Health Day 10.10.10 and the annual continuous effort, the 3rd Annual Mental Health Week 2010 was officially officiated in the month of October with joint collaboration of Peer Counselling Club, Psychology Club and Student Affairs.

It's funny how this year round was slightly closer to my heart. I love the students. Their dedication, their physical action and their commitment were superb. Most importantly, they owned the ownership of this project. With the core objective of create awareness on mental health, this year focused on Eustress- a happy and positive stress in life.

This waiting room is for patients under 18.

The Educational Site Visit was the event kickstart on the 1.10.10. I brought a group of 40 students to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang to explore Psychiatric Department and Ward. I guess the anticipating section was the interaction with the patients. Some students were fearful to stay close to them, some were brave enough to approach them. The doctor explained to us about the function of the department and there's also a discussion on the therapies used and some sharing of experience with all the encounters. This is the first attempt and i hope to organize more on this site visit to bring students go beyond the classroom. :) It's worthy afterall with all the hassles. I've learned.
