We grow in a family.
Family plays such a big role in one's growth, especially parents.
Seeing parents bringing their kids to the university makes me ponder. Why on earth a kid of 18-19 years old needs his parent to come over to check the details? Shouldn't he or she can be independent enough to settle all these by himself? I wonder to myself partly because my parents weren't there during that point of time. Or they were too busy for such life event of mine? Or maybe there's certain level of trust instilled in me by them? I believe it's the latter :)
Trust.
Something can't be seen. I feel, parents should trust their kids in learning how to make decision. Freedom to choose is very very crucial for one's development, be it mentally or emotionally. It boosts the self esteem and self confidence in searching the right path. Honestly speaking, i have the freedom to choose, to choose what i want to study, to choose what i want to be in the future, with the support of my family. However, that doesn't mean the child can misuse this freedom to do something out of norm. It bears certain responsibility. It's like... you're doing at your own risk. As a child, we should always appreciate the chances given by parents. :) We must learn how to think for ourself and on behalf of your loved ones. Nonetheless, i believe those protective parents are over possesive towards their kids. They just don't want us to be hurt.
Chinese family. I have no bias against any of the chinese family coz i AM from a chinese family. Just that, i feel, the culture wasn't properly being educated. The kiasu-ness and the money minded culture really can bring a child down. Why must only we do things which have advantage on ourself before others? Why is this culture actually existing? You know, selfishness does kill people? Again i must say, no man is an island. We might need someone's assistance in any time, any day. Please. Chop off such attitude and thinking. It's terrible for the social system and the development of our next generation. IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE!
