Risk. Challenge. Stress. Change

Looking at the title, i guess you guys might be predicting that it's gonna be a heavy post. =) Fret not, it's just some thoughts of mine which scanned me through for the past few days.

Attended 2 days seminar in regards of Compassion Fatigue, concerning with how to deal with stressors/burnout within the helping ministry and how people just feel "it's not enough". for instance counsellor, crisis management people, nurses and so on. It was a great awakening. Hmmm. This word is too big for me. Well, I have yet to that level of severity. =) Dr. Biles shared many realistic life examples with us, including her experiences. It's always good to listen to people. :) Her illustrations were all based on common comic, which greatly reflected our life. =)
We human, face burnout, not because of physically inadequate, nor we're not competent. We face burnout because emotionally, we are not being appreciated for what we've done. Think this through, isn't it just the perfect answer? No one would dump appreciation aside, we all are ought to be appreciated for everything we do. Often in life, we encounter a lot of challenges. I guess, those challenges are derived from the risks taken. We come out with the idea, thinking whether to take a risk to try. Due to trials and errors, that's when challenges arrive! :) Life is influenced by lotsa forces. These forces are similar to changes. When one pushes too hard to the other end of the line, that's when the force hits straight to us. Imagine a picture filled with lotsa particles and there's a beam in the middle of the picture. One side of the particles are vibrating too fast and charging to the right, moving the beam. So, yea, forces swayed by and created change. If we're unable to cope with it, we're either at the borderline shouting SOS or give up on things we used to love. Dr. Biles shared a very good quote with us "intentionally giving up expectation". At times, we feel so weary because we just don't meet those expectation within ourselves, let alone the expectation of others placed on us. To gradually heal these emotional wounds, giving up expectation intentionally can be a good way. :) I actually quite surprised to hear this method. Maybe it's a good try, don't ya think? :)

:) It was indeed a great experience to listen to these 2 diff speakers from different background, especially out of the context of our own. You'll realise how big the world is. =)

If we are to function effectively, we must learn to look into two directions: to preserve contact with the world and with the self.
