This semester, i am given a lot of opportunities to conduct field work out of UCSI. Counseling Psych, Abnormal Psych, and Ethics... these three subjects are a must for field work. Troublesome? Definately. Experiential? *YES! thumb's up!*
Today was the 2nd session i had with the autistic children for my Abnormal Psychology case study at Hua Min Autism Centre, Subang Jaya. I went there since last week with HuiRu and Kwang for observation purpose and try to befriend with the children there. As for today, we had an interview session with the parents for further info.
Well, let's do a summary. Mother is the best in this world. We wouldn't know how much mothers had sarcrifised for us, what's more for those mothers with special kids? *sigh* They need to pay 3x to 5x effort compare to normal parents. They need to face the prejudgment of the surrounding. Sometimes, i wished god can be fairer. During the interview, i got to know a lot about these autistic children on their family history, medical background and personality. People, we are indeed relatively fortunate compare to them.
Autistic kids are really innocent and cute. They have different types of classes in the centre, ranging from music to colouring, or even mathematics and counting money. Today, they played musical ball with us. I had a great time with them despite of my low energy bar due to pilled assignment this week. It quite saddening to see the difficulties they face as a child. They can't form a proper sentence, they can't speak well, they enjoy being in their own world, most importantly, they are having attention deficit problems and i think they don't even know what's going on around them. Big sigh.
It's sad to know that society is looking down on these childen, even the teachers in the primary school itself, are discriminating the children and ask the parents to send them to somewhere else. Sigh. Where is love education? No more. Parents are their pure support.
We are glad to know that parents are aware of their children's condition. They are warm, strong and kind. However, there are some parents who do not face the reality and they just give up on the children. It's sad to know that the kids are being abandoned in the centre.
Every child born in this world, has his special call. I believe one day, they can be recovered. I am touched by every word and every move of theirs. I hope i can have more patience and love in them.
Let love reigns.
Thank you lecturers for giving us all these exposures and hands-on learning. =)
